Located in East-Central Wisconsin, the Fond du Lac School District (FDL-SD) is the 19th largest school district in the state, educating more than 6,400 students across 75 square miles in Fond du Lac County. The district includes the city of Fond du Lac and parts of the town of Fond du Lac, Empire, Taycheedah, Peebles, St. Peter, Malone, Mt. Calvary, Silica, Byron, Marblehead and Eden. Learning communities are created at 14 schools: nine elementary schools, three middle schools, one high school, and the STEM Academy—a charter school for grades 6-12 that emphasizes project-based learning in science, technology, engineering, and math. Our district learning generally begins with four-year-old kindergarten offerings or early childhood.
Fond du Lac, meaning "foot of the lake" in French, is a city of about 43,000 people situated at the southern tip of Lake Winnebago, one of the largest inland lakes in the United States. It lies approximately 60 miles north of Milwaukee and Madison, and 60 miles south of Green Bay. It is home to beautiful Lakeside Park, where various events occur throughout the year, including Walleye Weekend in June and the Sturgeon Spectacular in February.
The city boasts a rich history, from its Native American origins to a thriving manufacturing sector. Residents enjoy the small-town charm often described as the "little big city" of the area, along with the advantages of being close to the amenities of larger cities. Known for its advanced manufacturing, Fond du Lac also offers recreational opportunities with Lake Winnebago at its core, including fishing, biking, and a revitalized downtown area with shopping, dining, and cultural sites. The community has three post-secondary schools: Marian University, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Fond du Lac Campus, and Moraine Park Technical College. This combination of natural beauty and modern conveniences makes Fond du Lac a distinctive "little big city," blending the allure of small-town life with the benefits of urban living.
